Ampthill Town go top after beating New Bradwell
Ampthill Town climbed to the top of the SSML Division One when they made it four successive wins by beating New Bradwell St Peter 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Bradwell had an early chance, but Town soon found their rhythm as after Danio Brown’s header hit the post, he also put a shot wide from close range. The visitors were denied by home stopper Mitch Howe, as the stalemate was broken on 35 minutes when Bradwell keeper Eben Tulomba failed to deal with a cross from Brown and Matt Moloney snapped up the opportunity on his home debut.

Ampthill threatened again when they had an attempt cleared off the line, while Brown’s drive was turned around the post. Shea Greene put a header over from a corner and Mike Draycott was also off target, Brown then blazing wildly following a strong run, but they had done enough to secure all three points.
Town were also in action at the weekend, winning 2-0 at Crawley Green. The visitors showed plenty of intent early on and asked questions of the home defence, with Sam Holmes going close and Danio Brown firing wide in the opening stages. Harry Buckley put a header over from a corner, but Ampthill struggled to stamp their mark on the game despite winning the midfield battle
Newcomer Jake Kissiedu was helping out his front men and on 20 minutes he combined with Brown when the Clarets failed to clear the danger, going through to slot the ball past George Nicol. Mitch Howe had to turn a Courtney Bridges shot away in a rare home raid, but soon after Town's Gareth Hunt put in a speculative shot from a free kick and Holmes clipped a shot wide. The Amps made half time changes to add a spark to their game, but they were pushed back for spells of the second period.
Town's defence stood up to the home resurgence and replied with Brown firing across the face of the goal and later having a shot tipped round the post. The hosts continued to look for a late leveller, only for Ampthill to seal the deal when Kelvin Osei-Addo broke through on the counter-attack and set up a chance for Adam Hughes to fire his angled shot past Nicol. Ampthill head to Burton Park Wanderers this weekend.
