Another application submitted to turn former beleaguered Bedford GP surgery into flats
Another set of plans have been submitted to convert the old GP surgery in Goldington Road into flats.
A decision is pending on that application (reference 26/01040/FUL) – but another one has gone into the council.
This time, Goldington Rise is applying to convert the former surgery to provide SEVEN additional flats, and modifications to one existing flat from a two-bed to a one-bed, resulting in 10 flats in total.

But Bedford Blues Rugby Club are concerned and have said any future occupiers need to be alerted to the potential for noise from the rugby ground – as well as a possible boundary wall issue.
They wrote: “The scheme proposes the demolition of the wall which forms the rear wall of the existing garages on the site, and which is the boundary with the rugby club.
"There are also protected trees along this side of the rugby ground. No details seem to have been submitted of the new boundary wall, nor how the tree protection barriers proposed are to be erected without the cooperation of the club to allow access.”
If you want to have your say online, you’ve got until November 19 – or you can comment via email to [email protected]. The application reference number is 26/01971/FUL.
In January 2024, Bedford Today exclusively revealed the Goldington Road Surgery was forced to close after Dr Das resigned.
Health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Dr Das’ practice in December 2023 and took enforcement action with the surgery closing in March 2024. All patients were then transferred to the Goldington Avenue Surgery.
The former surgery is not to be confused with old De Parys Group’s Goldington Road branch which also closed with its patients relocating to the Enhanced Services Centre at Bedford Health Village in Kimbolton Road.
