A new planning application has gone in for land at Warwick Avenue, in Bedford.

It’s for a block of NINE dwellings and would be at the site left empty for around a decade after the original house was demolished following a fire.

Outline permission was granted in 2024 for a 12-flat development but now a new application has gone into council after the applicant said the flats plan was no longer financially viable.

One member of the public hoped the new application would be given the green light and wrote on the council’s site: “This application appears to be the same as the one applied for a year ago and rejected because it didn't prove that there would be an increase of 10% in the bat population.

"No consideration was given to the human occupants of the area that have had yet another year of living with drug abuse vagrancy and prostitution on the derelict site. I hope the planning department give due consideration to the environmental needs of homo sapiens and allow the site to be developed.”
