Real Bedford roar back into action with win at AFC Sudbury after weekend postponements

Their home clash with Needham Market had been called off at the weekend due to a frozen pitch.

But on Tuesday, Josh Allen fired the visitors ahead on 36 minutes.

Some great determination from Lee Watkins saw him send Ben Stevens down the wing, who crossed for Allen to smash home. It was almost two in first half stoppage time as a Jack Morrell cross hit the home bar.

After chances at both ends, Stevens then hit the post on 67 minutes before great link-up play three minutes later saw Allen put the ball into the box where Josh Setchell was well placed to tap home.

Archie Jones then came off the Bedford bench and immediately changed the game as he added a third on 70 minutes, darting onto a through ball and poking past the keeper. Kien Connolly pulled back a consolation for Sudbury with three minutes to go.

The Pirates now head for Barwell on Saturday.

Bedford Town's National League North game at Curzon Ashton on Saturday fell victim to a frozen pitch and the Eagles next host Southport this Saturday.

Bedford have signed George Munday on a month's loan from Cambridge United to bolster forward options while Declan Phillips’ loan spell at Potters Bar Town has been extended until 7th February.

Ampthill Town's trip to London Colney was cancelled on Saturday morning due to a frozen pitch along with the majority of fixtures in the SML Division One.

This week, due to original opponents Wellingborough Whitworths being involved in a rescheduled Northants County Cup match at Desborough, the league programme computer has again given them a trip to London Colney this weekend where they will be hoping for better luck with the weather.
