Jackett admits to Gray interest as striker gets his head down

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett is yet to make a move for striker Andre Gray despite admitting paying a visit to Kenilworth Road to watch him, write Mike Simmonds and Mark Wood.

The Lions manager was spotted in the crowd during Town’s 6-1 win over Barrow last month, where Gray bagged a goal himself.

Confirming it was the striker he had come to watch, Jackett said: “I didn’t know we were going to draw Luton in the cup at that time, so it’s fair to say that was the guy I was watching, yes.

“He’s someone I’ve been aware of but so would most managers of any good player.

When asked about the interest from Millwall, Gray, who signed a year’s extension to his contract last month, said: “I knew what my job was and it was just a matter of me working hard.

“I will keep working hard in training and see what happens.”

Meanwhile, former Town manager Paul Buckle had declared he was not unduly worried that his 13-goal star striker was being coveted by clubs higher up the football pyramid.
