The 27-year-old came down into the Conference from Hereford to join the Hatters in 2011, but when asked if he was hoping to get back up, he said: “That’s the plan. I dropped out of the league to come down to Luton with the aim of getting back up straight away.

“I’d like to be back in the league, I’ve just turned 27 now, so I’m coming into my prime.

“Hopefully I can find a club back in the League or someone with aspirations of getting into the League and just make sure it’s the right decision for me.

“I’ve had a bit of contact with a few clubs. Play-offs are still being played and the season is winding down now.

“I’ve spoken to my representative and will speak to clubs in two, three weeks time when the season has calmed down a bit and people have decided what sort of squads they’re looking for.

“I’ve got a few irons in different fires, so I just have to sit tight and see what happens.”

Fleetwood underwent a hernia operation before leaving Kenilworth Road and praised Town for their help in organising it.

He said: “The club were really great about sorting out my operation.

“They sent me to the best guy who works in Leicester where all the top players go.”

Before signing on at a new club though, Fleetwood will have to go under the knife a second time for his other hernia, adding: “The first operation went absolutely fine. It’s very uncommon for people to have the second one done straight away.

“During my rehab, it started to flare up, so I thought I might as well get it done sooner rather than later.

“I’ll be going in in a couple of weeks and will be fighting fit for pre-season.”
