All the odds as Hatters travel to Barrow

Few tears were shed I would suspect following the FA Trophy exit at Grimsby midweek although Luton fielded a strong side and one could argue the match highlighted the inconsistency of the Hatters’ this season following their magnificent 1-0 win at Carrow Road in the fourth round FA Cup tie on Saturday, writes Charlie McCann.

The club rightly grabbed Sunday’s newspaper headlines but the draw could have been kinder although Paul Buckle will look for more of the same when Millwall come to town on February 16th.

One could argue that the FA Trophy was a more realistic Wembley objective but after Bradford’s Capital One Cup exploits who knows and let’s get it right on their day the Hatters’ would certainly be a match for the Bantams.

Luton are 3/1 to beat Millwall in 90 minutes at BetVictor and that looks a fair price given Millwall were well beaten at Barnsley in the Championship on Tuesday; the Hatters are 1000/1 to lift the trophy in May after their Norwich success with the two Manchester Club vying for favouritism at 5/2, with Chelsea 5s and Arsenal and Everton on 11/2.

Town are back in Conference action on Saturday and they must put their FA Cup exploits on the back burner as they make the long journey to Barrow; the hosts are 7/2 for the win with the draw 27/10 and the Hatters 4/5.

Grimsby are 9/4 favourites for the Conference title with Wrexham (held by Southport on Tuesday) the same price and Luton 5s. The other pair have the points on the board and although the Hatters have games in hand they are going to be playing catch up in the months to come.

Luton are 9/4 to be promoted and 2/7 to make the top five and thus be guaranteed the minimum of a play-off spot; the Hatters have the squad to meet the difficult schedule they will face over the weeks and months to come but it promises to be a nail-biting conclusion to the season.
