“In doing so, this will help give frontline healthcare workers better access to freshly prepared food while also getting our supply chain up and running again to deliver food to the homeless.”
The shops are open from Thursday 16 April and will operate as takeaway and delivery services only.

“We also saw the impact the situation is having on those who may not be able to easily get to the supermarkets, like key workers. There’s a need for affordable, accessible food and we wanted to do our part.”

When will McDonald’s reopen?
There hasn’t been any official word on when McDonald’s might be reopening its doors to the public.
In the announcement to say that they would be closing, Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, Paul Pomroy, said: “It has become clear that maintaining safe social distancing whilst operating busy takeaway and Drive Thru restaurants is increasingly difficult and there we have taken the decision to close every restaurant in the UK and Ireland by 7pm on Monday 23 March.”

But while their doors remain closed, McDonald’s has been sharing recipes for some of their most popular items on social media.
This is the recipe for their sausage and egg McMuffin, with a hash brown, according to McDonald’s.
Ingredients:
- 1 English muffin
- 75g of sausage meat
- 1 egg
- 1 slice of American cheese
- 1 potato

Hide AdTo make the sausage and egg McMuffin, you’ll need to toast your English muffin until golden brown.
Season your sausage meat with some salt and pepper and shape into balls. Flatten them into patty shapes and cook under a preheated grill for six to seven minutes on either side.
For your egg, brush the inside of a metal ring with a little oil and place in a frying pan and pour in just enough water to cover the base - bring to a boil. Crack your egg into the ring and cover the pan for two to three minutes until cooked.
