Community: Last chance to nominate youth work stars

Nominations have been arriving at the National Youth Agency from as far away as Jersey in the Channel Islands and Argyll in Scotland from the nominees who really want to sing the praises of their youth workers. Now there are less than 24 hours left to submit your nominations.

Youth organisations, community leaders and young people are being urged to showcase the impact a youth worker has made to their local community through nominating them for a national award.

The Youth Work Award has been introduced by the National Youth Agency as part Youth Work Week 2011 to ensure youth workers who have made an outstanding difference to their community are recognised.

Winners of the award this year will be invited to the House of Commons on November 2 to meet with Baroness Tyler, Director of the Vulnerable Children’s Group at the Department for Education, and Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Children and Families Tim Loughton MP, as well as other leaders in the Youth Work Sector to celebrate their achievements and to spread the word about the community changing projects that are taking place across the UK.

Fiona Blacke, National Youth Agency chief executive, said: “Youth Workers are so very often the unsung heroes – quietly delivering real change by creatively spanning divides to bring communities closer together and now, during Youth Work Week, is the time to sing their praises and nominate your local hero for an award.”

To nominate the youth worker that has made the biggest difference to your community and the lives of its young people send 140 characters detailing what they have done and who they are through Twitter to @natyouthagency or via the National Youth Agency Facebook page by Tuesday 18 October 2011.

Applications can be supported by a small video, a story, picture, a poem or just a few lines as to why you have nominated them and why they have changed your community, the National Youth Agency will follow up your application for further details. If you do not have access to the social media sites then an E mail can be sent to [email protected].
