Young people in Bedfordshire can still enjoy the great outdoors with online courses in August.

Country Days, a charity in Bedford, specialises in showing children the benefits of the rural environment.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic they are unable to offer their usual two-day fieldwork courses, but they are instead taking them on line.

The online curriculum is being launched on Monday, August 10.

For one week, children will be able to take part in a virtual course by participating in the video workshops on the Country Days website.

The courses will include a diverse range of activities including cartography, den building and bug hunting.

Each virtual course will also have a ‘Fieldwork’ task which the children will be able to do independently after watching the video.

These tasks can be completed in any outdoor space but they will also be taking a limited number of bookings to visit their nature reserve in Felmersham on Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14.

You can find more information about the online curriculum and how to book at www.countrydays.net

Helen Orssich, co-founder and trustee said: “Country Days is committed to providing access to outdoor learning for young people in Bedfordshire and we are determined to continue to do so in whatever way we can during the Covid-19 crisis.

"We hope that these virtual courses will give young people the opportunity to be able to enjoy and experience the outdoors even during these challenging times.”

The online course is free for everybody. You just need to fill in a copy of the registration form which can be downloaded from the website and returned to the charity by Friday, July 31.

Once you have registered, you will receive your Felmersham Fieldwork Pack by post (or email if you prefer). This pack will contain everything you need for the virtual course.
