Castle Newnham launches a bold new chapter in technology and AI, partnering with education technology expert Emma Darcy
Castle Newnham is embarking on an ambitious new chapter in its digital strategy, working with renowned education technology specialist Emma Darcy to help shape a forward-thinking, evidence-informed approach to technology and artificial intelligence (AI) across the school.

Castle Newnham All-Through School in Bedford is looking to the future as it launches its Big Tech Mission: a whole-school commitment to exploring how technology and AI can enhance learning, empower teachers, develop pupils’ digital skills and prepare young people for an increasingly digital world.
The school is delighted to confirm they are collaborating with Emma Darcy, an experienced education technology leader and consultant whose work has helped schools and trusts develop thoughtful, impactful approaches to technology for learning.
The partnership marks an important step in Castle Newnham’s ambition to get ahead of the curve, not by chasing the latest technology, but by understanding its potential, asking the right questions and making informed decisions about how it can best serve children and their education.
A vision for the future of learning
Technology and AI are rapidly reshaping the world beyond the classroom. Castle Newnham believes schools have an important role to play in ensuring that young people are not simply consumers of technology, but confident, creative, critical and responsible users of it.
The school’s Big Tech Mission will explore how digital innovation can support its educational priorities, from curriculum development and classroom teaching to inclusion, safeguarding, infrastructure and staff development.
Crucially, this is about more than devices, platforms or AI tools. It is about building a coherent, sustainable strategy that puts children, learning and opportunity first.
By bringing together professional expertise, research, staff experience, pupil voice and the perspectives of parents and carers, Castle Newnham aims to develop an approach that is ambitious in its vision and grounded in the everyday realities of school life.
Bringing expertise and ambition together
Emma Darcy brings substantial experience of leading technology for learning and supporting digital transformation across schools and Trusts. Her work has included developing digital strategies, supporting innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and helping education leaders consider how emerging technologies, including AI, can be used purposefully, safely and effectively. Her collaboration with Castle Newnham will bring additional expertise, insight and challenge to the school’s thinking as it develops its next chapter.
Looking ahead: a shared mission
The Big Tech Mission represents an opportunity for Castle Newnham to take a deliberate, ambitious and collaborative approach to the future of technology in education. Through its work with Emma Darcy, the school will explore what is possible, challenge assumptions and develop a clearer understanding of how digital innovation can contribute to its wider educational vision.
Above all, the mission is about ensuring that technology serves a meaningful purpose: helping children learn, grow in confidence, develop essential skills and access opportunities that prepare them for life beyond school.
Castle Newnham looks forward to bringing its community along on this journey and sharing further updates as the strategy develops.
This is not simply about keeping up with technology. It is about helping shape what comes next, thoughtfully, responsibly and together.
