Ampthill care home donates £250 to St Andrew’s Church weathervane
“Thank you so much for the donation towards our weathervane appeal – what a lovely surprise”
Harvest donations went beyond simple food offerings at an Ampthill care home this autumn, when residents handed St. Andrew’s Church a sizeable donation.

Residents and colleagues at Richmond Manor Care Home on Dunstable Street did their traditional Harvest collection for the church’s foodbank, but with an added extra.

St Andrew’s Church has been fundraising for a new weathervane after Storm Eunice destroyed their old one four years ago.
So Reverend Mike Stewart was thrilled to receive £250 from the home towards the cost of the new weathervane.
Home Ambassador Stephanie England said: “The residents love the traditional Harvest service and collecting for the church food bank.
“But it feels extra special this year to be able to hand over a donation towards the new weathervane, which will shape the skyline of Ampthill for years to come.”
The home donated the money as part of its quarterly charity initiative, and it will contribute to the repairs.
Nigel Pollard, Chair of trustees at Friends of St Andrew’s Church, said: “Thank you so much for the donation towards our weathervane appeal – what a lovely surprise!”
The decision to donate reflects the close bond between the care home and church. Thanks to Reverend Mike, who regularly leads services at the home, residents who wish to continue the spiritual practice can do so.
Breda Buchanan, aged 85, said: “My faith has been very important to me for my whole life, and it’s wonderful to be able to worship here at Richmond Manor with Reverend Mike’s help.
“I’m glad we’ve been able to help both St. Andrew’s Church with the new weathervane and the local foodbank this Harvest. Giving is very much the spirit of this season!”
