Still’s vote of confidence is big boost for O’Donnell as he hails Hatters’ grit and determination.

Energetic midfield JJ O’Donnell revealed it was a ‘great confidence boost’ to come off the bench and help turn Saturday’s game around as the Hatters beat Lincoln City 3-2 in a scintillating comeback victory at Kenilworth Road, writes Mark Wood.

With Town trailing 2-1, he and striker Andre Gray were introduced to great effect in the second half and played a key role in turning the game around.

The 21-year-old left winger said: “It gives you a great confidence boost when the gaffer puts you on in a situation where you are 2-1 down because he thinks you’re good enough to affect the game.

“I like to think that when me and Andre came on it gave us a bit of impetus to go forward and we got the result that we wanted.”

There had been questions marks as to whether Ben Tomlinson’s header for the second had crossed the line as keeper Mark Tyler tried to claw it away, but O’Donnell felt it was in.

He said: “I think it did cross the line. It should never have got to that stage anyway. We’ve been working very hard as a team to show that we don’t want to concede from that long throw which we knew they had.

“I think a few of our lads could have done a bit better to deal with it, but it’s all about winning games of football and we’ve shown resilience and courage to get back to win 3-2.”
