Howells pride at becoming Town’s longest servant

HATTERS starlet Jake Howells could barely contain his delight after agreeing a new three-year deal with the club last week, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 21-year-old had been out of contract since the end of the campaign, but admitted once the offer was on the table, he was always going to sign.

Just prior to Howells putting pen to paper, the Welsh U21 international had been linked with a reported move to Championship side Ipswich Town.

Although pleased to be the subject of some interest, the left-footer was never seriously considering leaving Kenilworth Road.

With the summer upheaval at Kenilworth Road and midfielder Keith Keane joining League One Preston, amazingly, Howells is now the longest-serving player at the club in terms of appearances.

Despite being only 21, he has played 183 times, scoring 15 goals since making his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town in League One on May 3, 2008.
