He said: “I was moved from an attacking midfielder and I only started playing up front since last year.

“The turning point was where we played Stevenage in the FA Youth Cup and we lost 3-0 and I was playing as part of a three-man midfield, but as the more advanced one.

“And then after that they said if you’re going to play like that we’re going to have to have a look at you playing as a striker. And then ever since then I’ve played as a striker and I’ve enjoyed it.”

And Banton admitted all of Town’s coaches have had an impact on his development, adding: “I can’t really pick anyone individually. Wayne (Turner) was the one that started playing me up front and then Drives throughout my whole scholarship has been a very, very good coach and under him I’ve improved a lot.

“Then also another stepping stone comes in playing development games where I’ve had the influence of Hakan (Hayrettin) and Terry (Harris) and they’ve both given me the confidence in pre-season to do what I’ve done and the opportunity to get where I am now.

“I think it’s all a shared influence on me really so I can’t really pick an individual, they’ve all had good impacts on me.”
