Ex-Hatters boss Buckle takes American role

Former Town boss Paul Buckle has been appointed as technical director at The Metropolitan Oval in America.

The Oval is a leading development academy based at New York’s most historic soccer facility.

Buckle will oversee all football-related activities of the club, and will also coach the Met Oval’s U14 development academy team.

A statement from the Met Oval board of directors said: “We are excited to have Paul serve as the Technical Director of Met Oval.

“He is a highly accomplished coach with the vision to fulfill Met Oval’s goal of creating New York City’s only youth center of excellence.

“Through his leadership, Met Oval will deliver on its commitment to provide a ‘talent greenhouse’ where the highest-quality youth soccer players from all backgrounds can flourish.”

Buckle was appointed as Town boss in April 2012 and led Hatters to the Conference play-off final, where they lost 2-1 to York City.

The former Bristol Rovers and Torquay manager then took Luton to the FA Cup fifth round with a 1-0 win at Premier League Norwich City, before resigning from his position just hours before a 1-1 draw with Macclesfield in February.
