Defender turns down move home to stay with Luton

UNFINISHED business at Kenilworth Road was the driving force behind Irish defender Freddie Murray’s decision to put pen to paper on a new contract last week, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 29-year-old had an offer on the table to return to his homeland, but after spending the last two years trying to win promotion with the Hatters back into the Football League, he was desperate to achieve his goal this season.

Murray said: “It (the contract) was agreed a long time ago, it was just a case of getting it sorted.

“I had an offer, a good offer from Ireland actually. It was a longer term deal, it was a very appealing offer to go back home, but it’s a case of a bit of unfinished business here.”
