Boucaud set to join Magpies as Town agree fee

Town midfielder Andre Boucaud is poised to join Notts County permanently after the two clubs finally agreed a deal, writes Mark Wood.

The 28-year-old has impressed for the Magpies during his five-month loan stay, scoring once in 23 appearances.

Boucaud had made his desire to stay at the League One club clear, but the Midlands outfit had been reticent to cough up the money to secure his signature, as he was out of contract in the summer.

But Luton have stuck to their guns and have been rewarded, recouping more than the £25,000 they paid York for his services last year.

Managing director Gary Sweet said: “Notts County and Luton have reached an agreement for the transfer of Andre Boucaud.

“It’s now up to Andre and his agent to agree personal terms with Notts County.

“We’ve given Notts County permission to speak to the player to agree personal terms and we expect that to be done in the next day or so and Andre will become a Notts County player.

“If not there are other clubs that are interested and Andre’s name will be circulated if personal terms can’t be agreed.

“He’ll probably be given permission to speak to any other club that meets the transfer criteria that we set. The transfer criteria that we set were we didn’t want to lose money on Andre.

“We’ve surpassed that (£25,000 plus add-ons depending on Luton’s performance last year and this year), so from that perspective, although it will be an undisclosed fee, I think we can all see that we’ve at least broken even with Andre.”

Sweet was glad to have finally come to an agreement and pleased that Boucaud looked set to get his wish.

He added: “Good for Andre. Andre was clearly a good player to include in our squad.

“He’s got good technical ability, quite clearly because otherwise he wouldn’t be able to hold his place down at a club in League One.

“It does also show that sometimes at this level we need a different type of player. That’s not to say that Andre can’t play at this level, but he can play at League One better than he can at this level.

“So we’ve decided that where we want to put our investment is with players like Jonathan Smith.”
