Appearance fees thwart Town’s bid for Drury

A DEMAND for ‘bigger appearance fees’ scuppered a Kenilworth Road homecoming for former crowd favourite Andy Drury, writes Mark Wood.

The Hatters admitted they were ‘quite close’ to sealing a loan move for the talented midfielder before he chose to join moneybags Crawley Town on a 93-day loan last week.

Luton managing director Gary Sweet revealed: “We were constantly tracking Dukes and got permission from Ipswich to discuss a move.

“We made a very fair offer which included his full salary being paid for the loan period, however, Andy declined the move as he wanted bigger appearance fees, which we weren’t happy to meet.

“Whilst I don’t blame any player for getting the best deal on offer we only want players at Luton who value being at Luton; this season more than any other season.”
