Eagles boss looking to add to his squad

Bedford Town boss Jon Taylor is still looking to make a host of additions to his squad after the Eagles began their pre-season campaign on Tuesday night.

Town were held to a 1-1 draw at the Eyrie by National League South side Hemel Town and speaking to the club’s official website afterwards, Taylor said: “I’ve got certainly another five or six and three new signings I want to launch quite soon as they will be three integral players that did well last year.

“They were in a team that actually got promotion in the play-offs, and there’s some good younger players that I’d like to sign.

“It looks a very strong group and for me I can’t wait for the season to start.”

Striker Leroy Griffiths scored the only goal for Bedford in midweek and Taylor was full of praise for his performance along with the rest of the squad.

He continued: “He (Griffiths) leads the line well.

“Just his little bit of experience, talking on the pitch, he encourages players and talks players through the games as well.

“Ben Farrell did very, very well too, first half Phil Draycott put some great crosses in, Danny Watson did very well, so it was a good performance and that’s what we’re looking for.”

On just what impressed him the most, Taylor said: “Everything about the team talk was about out of possession, being compact keeping our shape.”

“Making sure we’re not chasing the game as if we did, we would have been picked off.

“It went to plan and I thought the lads worked very, very hard against a side that just missed out on the play-offs in the Conference South last season.

“We’ve had seven sessions in pre-season and have started to get the group going now in the sense that everyone knows what they’re doing and it shows.
“It gives me a bit of a headache which is what I want. As there’s a good group of players and as long as the lads keep working hard, it’s going to be difficult to narrow the squad down because there’s a lot of good players there.”
Eagles now host a Stevenage XI next Tuesday night.
