Food and hospitality open doors to better futures for Bedford's young people
Bedford based Food etc, which empowers people to make better food choices by teaching them how to cook affordable, tasty and nutritious meals from scratch, recently brought together a range of organisations from across Bedford and beyond at their Good Food = Better Futures event.

Speakers talked about food and hospitality as a way into meaningful training and work opportunities for young people. They included representatives from Bedford College, Everyone’s Gang, Bedford Blues Foundation, Thomas Franks Ltd, Milton Keynes hospital, Bedford Giving and Scald End Farming.
“One of the big highlights of this event for me was sharing my catering journey with some amazing people from Bedford all focused on helping others. Putting something back into the community I grew up in is something I hope I can do more of in the future.” Francesco Fiore, catering manager, Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Trust.
“I felt so proud about not just what we’ve achieved, but being part of a town where there are lots of brilliant people and great things happening.” Jennie Moore, Director, Food etc.
“It was a great night and really nice to see such a variety of people in the room.” Tom Harwood, head of foundation, Bedford Blues Foundation
“We had a great turnout with lots of interesting and interested people and are very excited about what could come out of all these discussions.” Julie Clay, Founder and Director, Food etc.
Caroline Indge, head of partnerships at The Bedford College Group said: "The work being delivered by Food etc is making a real difference within our community. We were delighted to attend the event and look forward to building a strong partnership in support of shared ambitions during exciting times ahead for young people in and around Bedford."
