Darts defeat branded ‘a joke’ by angry Neilson

The disgruntled wideman was one of the few players to come out with any credit from the loss and admitted Town’s travelling supporters had every right to boo them at the end.

He said: “People who are paying to come and watch and leaving work early, we get beaten 1-0 by a part-time side, who wouldn’t want to boo?”

On their performance against the Darts, he continued: “It’s a bit of a joke really.

“We can’t come to places like this and not get anything at all, let alone the three points. These have lost to Lincoln and Lincoln had 10 men and we’ve come here, it’s a joke really. I’m not too sure, something is definitely wrong. You can’t even put a finger on it. It just looks like we need a kick up the a**e really.

“Something’s going wrong and I don’t know what it is. We are going to need to work on it because at this rate it’s not looking good.”

Skipper Ronnie Henry was equally upset and knows Luton must learn their lessons quickly or risk slipping out of the promotion frame entirely.

He said: “The Conference isn’t easy, but you’ve got to come to places like this and grind out results.

“You are never going to be able to play football in the Conference that much, so we’ve got to learn quick because if we don’t we will be falling by the wayside.”

Henry felt there was no excuse for losing to a team whose players had probably been doing their ‘day jobs’ earlier.

“It’s not good enough from us,” he continued. “We failed to score against a team that are part-time.

“Some of them have probably been to work which is nowhere near good enough for us, so I feel sorry for the 700-odd fans that travelled here.

“They deserve more than that and we’ll be working hard and straight in again in the morning to put things right, but we’ve to learn quick.”

Boss Paul Buckle refused to shy away from the criticism, adding: “It’s part and parcel of football. Whenever you lose in a Luton shirt it’s a big deal and rightly so.

“We know we shouldn’t be in this division, but I’ve never said to you anything different other than it’s going to be a slog and a fight.

“I’m here up for the fight, the players are up for the fight, and that’s what you’ve got to do to get out of this league.

“We’ll talk with the players tomorrow. I won’t scream and shout because sometimes that works, but you can’t do that all the time.

“We’re in a really tough division, we know every time we play there’s expectation upon us and when we lose loads of questions are fired at me and the players and that’s life, it’s not a problem for me.”
