Bulls boss glad to Foyle favourites Luton

Happy Hereford boss Martin Foyle was delighted his side had twice foiled Luton as they claimed four points from the pre-season Blue Square Bet Premier title favourites, writes Mark Wood.

He said: “We certainly bounced back (from the 3-2 defeat against Newport) against the favourites that should be at the top of the league.

“If you’d said it at the start of the season with the problems that we’ve had and what we’ve had throughout the season, not losing to Luton in two games I think it’s a great achievement for the players. We know what we need to do better, but we can’t throw on offensive player because we haven’t got any.”

Having bossed the first half against Luton on Saturday he felt a 1-1 draw was a fair result, but was disappointed his side hadn’t claimed all three points.

“It’s cruel because first half I thought we were outstanding and again we had to change formation due to a lack of personnel,” Foyle continued.

“It was a well fought, especially second half we know we were hanging for a little bit there, but I thought we defended with guts and there were a couple of great saves there at times and when we broke away we hit the bar and had a couple of half-chances ourselves. A draw was probably a fair result but after the first half we should have been 2-0 up, not problem.

“To come to a place like this and a team that’s like a million miles from where we are it’s a good point but disappointed we didn’t get three.

“The difference is that they are bringing attacking players on. I’ve got nothing there to go and attack them back and I’ve got nothing much to throw on so to counteract the tiring legs of (Chris) Sharp and Marlon (Jackson), so have to bring on defensive players and it does entice like the other night against Newport it brings them on to us. We do need one or two fresh personnel that are going to give us more of an offensive threat.”

And he praised his side’s performance, adding: “The away form’s been very good and you can see by our football today in that first half I thought it was outstanding.

“They’re well-drilled and they can play a little bit and it’s not rocket science. It’s not a criticism for anything or anybody, it does hamper us. So today we got on the ball, showed a bit of confidence, a bit of arrogance and again the front three came off their shape and caused them no end of problems.”
