Hatters striker Paul Benson admitted his side had been left shell-shocked by visitors Braintree’s start during their 3-2 defeat at the weekend.

The Luton players and over 10,000 supporters had turned up at Kenilworth Road, knowing that victory would see them crowned Skrill Premier champions.

But Braintree revelled in their role as party poopers, scoring twice in the opening 21 minutes, then leading 3-0. before withstanding a late Luton onslaught.

Benson said: “We were a bit shell shocked. We knew Braintree are a good side and are capable of doing that, but having been so good at home, this season, we were hoping we could have won the game.

“It wasn’t the perfect day and it wasn’t a great performance either. Weve got a lot of work to do and hopefully we can do that this week.”
