New 72-bed care home in Flitwick welcomes first residents

A new 72-bed care home in Flitwick has welcomed its first residents.

Honeysuckle House is part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s new senior living village at Red Kite Meadows and is being operated by the authority’s in-house care company Care is Central.

After receiving Care Quality Commission registration, the home welcomed George Brighton and Jim Kelly, who had moved from Ferndale Older People's Residential Home, as its first residents.

Jim cut the ribbon to celebrate the first residents moving into the site, as they were welcomed by Care is Central’s registered manager Julie Ricci.

The Red Kite Meadows development on Steppingley Road features the care home alongside independent living apartments, a short stay unit and community facilities as part of a single site.

Managing director of Care is Central Robert Templeton said: “It was great to welcome the first residents to Honeysuckle House and see the building begin to come to life as a real home and community.

“With 72 ensuite bedrooms, welcoming lounges, dining areas and shared spaces, it has been designed to give residents opportunities to spend time together, take part in activities and welcome family and friends.

“As more residents move in, Honeysuckle House is steadily becoming more than a new building, it is becoming a home and a thriving community.”

Central Bedfordshire Council’s executive member for adult social care and health Mark Smith added: “Red Kite Meadows represents a major investment in the future of adult social care and demonstrates our commitment to providing outstanding facilities for local people.

“We are delighted to see this vision become a reality and to celebrate this important milestone with residents, families and staff.”
