Bedford's Chicken George makes top 10 list for best vegan chicken
Good news for vegans with Bedford’s Chicken George making PETA’s top 10 list for its crispy, crunchy Chickless Chicken Burger.
The burger can be ordered classic or smothered in mouth-watering buffalo sauce or sweet-and-spicy mango sauce, from its restaurant in Tavistock Street.
The list of Top Ten Vegan Chicken Picks in the UK has been drawn up by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which says ‘each deliver bold, delicious flavours that don’t ruffle a single feather’.
Chicken George boss Chris Cheah said: "To be included in this award means a huge amount to us. As an independent family business, recognition like this reminds us that all the hard work, long hours and obsession with getting every receipt right really does pay off.

"What makes it even more special is that it's for our vegan burger. We never wanted our vegan options to be an afterthought. Our aim has always been to create something that stands on its own and gives vegan customers the same excitement and quality that we're known for across the rest of our menu.
“The vegan community has incredibly high standards, soto be recognised by PETA as one of the UK's Top 10 Vegan Burgers is something we're genuinely proud of. It's a testament to our whole team, who put so much passion into developing and perfecting every product we serve. For the business, awards like this help put Chicken George on the map and show people that we're prepared to innovate, listen to our customers and cater for everyone. Hopefully it encourages even more people, vegan or not, to come and give it a try. Most importantly, it's a moment for the whole team to celebrate. They've worked incredibly hard and seeing that effort recognised makes us all excited to keep raising the bar."
Dawn Carr, PETA vice president of vegan corporate projects, said: “From saucy burgers to crispy vegan tenders, every winner on PETA’s list is serving up seriously satisfying vegan chicken that’s full of flavour and free from suffering.
“PETA is encouraging everyone to leave birds in peace, not pieces, by ordering delicious, kind meals that rule the roost.”
