Bedford Waitrose recalls pitted black olives over food poisoning fears
Waitrose is pulling its own brand pitted black olives after some were found with traces of listeria.
The recall affects its Essential 120g pack size with best before dates of September 13, September 18, and September 27.
A joint statement by Waitrose and the Food Standards Agency said: “Symptoms caused by listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.
“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.”

If you have bought the pitted black olives do not eat them. Return them to your nearest Waitrose where you will be given a full refund. For more info, contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, option 4.
