J D Wetherspoon has bought the former Brewers Fayre in Kempston.

The company – owned by Sir Tim Martin – plans to open the refitted pub on Tuesday, September 1, according to its website.

It’s unclear whether the pub – in Marsh Leys Cottages, Kempston – will go under a new name but it’s all part of a Wetherspoon expansion.

Wetherspoon spokesman, Eddie Gershon, said: “Wetherspoon is delighted to have purchased the former Brewers Fayre in Bedford.

“The company will be redeveloping the site and it is due to reopen early September (2026). We believe the new-look pub will be an asset to the town and attract a wide range of customers.

“The fact that the new Universal Studios theme park will be nearby is a boon to the town and will obviously benefit the pub too.”

Wetherspoon already has another pub and hotel in Bedford – The Pilgrim’s Progress, in Midland Road – which officially opened in March 1997.
