Veganuary may have ended but not for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service as it goes green

The service has started to use vegan cups in its canteen as part of a drive to be more eco-friendly

The new takeaway vegan cups are being used in the canteen and are fully compostable - breaking down after 12 weeks. They've been trialled and tested and are reusable for at least a working week.

New compost bins have also been issued, the use of single use plastics has been reduced and plastic bottles are out too.

Head of governance and asset management, Christopher Ball said: “These new initiatives show our commitment to creating a more sustainable way of working. Environmental protection is an increasingly pressing issue and, as a service, we are taking actions to use our resources more responsibly.

“Though these initiatives are initially small changes, we intend to create more positive examples of how we work with sustainability, both locally and nationally, and will be launching an Environmental and Sustainability Strategy in the near future to set out our aspirations going forward.”
