One of the UK’s most original guitarists is heading coming to town to perform at the weekly jazz night at the Bedford Arms on Monday May 4.
British-based Swiss guitarist Nicolas Meier is one of the stars of a vibrant British jazz scene, his trademark sound heard on his MGP Records and Naim albums.
Meier and his band won the Grand Prize Of The Jury and 1st Prize Jazz Guitar at Jazz a Juan Revelations 2006, A competition open to the finest new jazz musicians and bands in Europe and run by the Jazz A Juan Festival.
He has become increasingly well known in his adopted country where his Nicolas Meier Group has toured extensively for the past eight years.
With his unique style described as a blend of Metheny-esque jazz and Turkish inspired world music, Nick has toured extensively around the world. His wonderful band, featuring sax maestro Gilad Atzmon, won the overall prize for ‘best band’ at the Juan-les-Pins jazz festival!
His recent album Kismet is a heady mixture of Flamenco, jazz, Latin and Middle Eastern music. His prodigious jazz talent is matched by his other great passion: playing heavy metal guitar in his scorching group ‘Seven7’.
Nick is currently guitarist in guitar supremo Jeff Beck’s band and these tours are wedged between forays with the Jeff Beck Band to Europe and the USA.
Completing the trio will be London bassist Nick Kacal and Mark Hale on the drums.
There is no admission charge but a suggested donation of £5 is asked to pay the musicians for their performance.
