The granddaughter of the famous jazz couple Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth CBE - and one of London’s top emerging musical talents herself - is playing in Bedford tonight (Thursday).
Emily Dankworth, who has enjoyed success since she graduated with an MMus in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2013, will play along with guitarist and composer Jamie Leeming under the name the Emily Dankworth Duo at the Pavilion Cafe in Bedford Park at 8pm.
As well as by her musical grandparents, Emily has been influenced through her upbringing by her aunt, jazz singer Jacqui Dankworth, and father, jazz bassist and composer Alec Dankworth. In her own career, she has travelled around Europe and the USA.
Tonight’s gig is hosted by Conscia Jazz, who welcomed Emily and Jamie at their sell-out event at Jazz @ The Ent Shed last September. It will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
Doors open at 7.40pm. For tickets (£10 plus booking fee), visit conscia.org, where there is also information about Conscia Jazz’s other monthly events, educational projects and their annual festival.
