Jimmy Save stripped of honourary doctorate - reports

Jimmy Saville has been stripped of his honorary doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire, according to reports.

The former TV presenter and DJ, who died in 2011, has been accused of a string of sexual offences in recent weeks.

He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2009, but it is claimed that the university has now decided to remove the honour posthumously.

A university spokesman is reported as saying: “The board of governors’ nominations and honours committee met last night to confirm that the honorary degree would be rescinded.

“The honorary award was in recognition of his charitable fund-raising. It was given in good faith without the knowledge of the current very serious allegations.”
