A new series of concerts aimed at breaking down the barriers between musicians and their audiences begins in Bedford on Thursday May 26.
Jazz at the Park, run at the Pavilion Cafe in Bedford Park, is organised by Conscia Jazz and features a Q&A session in the second set. The concerts take place on the last Thursday of every month.
Opening this current series is the duo of tenor saxophonist Alex Hitchcock and pianist Will Barry.
Soon to be graduates of the prestigious postgraduate jazz programme at the Royal Academy of Music, pianist Will Barry and saxophonist Alex Hitchcock share a musical history that goes back over ten years. Between them, they have played as sidemen with many major figures from the UK jazz scene and beyond, including Jasper Hoiby, Laurence Cottle, Soweto Kinch and Perico Sambeat.
In this new duo format, they explore each other’s original compositions as well as other repertoire ranging from the Yellowjackets to Lennie Tristano.
Tickets for this event, and the other concerts in the series, cost £10. Only 30 tickets are available for each show. Visit conscia.org to book.
