Nothing conventional about the nuns in Turvey musical Nunsense

Nunsense: The Mega Musical runs at the venue from Wednesday November 16 to Saturday November 19, presented by Turvey Amateur Theatrical Society.

Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials.

The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the a production of Grease.

The characters include Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer, Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices, a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina, Sister Mary Amnesia - the nun who has lost her memory.

Featuring tap and ballet dancing and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon, with more than 5,000 productions having taken place worldwide, and it has been translated into 21 languages.

Lucy Taylor from the theatrical society said: “The score pulses with merriment and an unabashed desire to make you laugh, with songs and spontaneous comic interludes paced at break-neck speed.”

Tickets cost £10 or £8 for concessions.
