Another action-packed month of jazz at the Bedford Arms gets underway next week.
Alto saxophonist Allison Neale and pianist Eriko Ishihara bring their distinctive sounds to the venue on Monday night.
American born altoist Allison Neale is a strong advocate of the melodic West Coast style and has performed alongside leading international artists such as Adelaide Hall and Bud Shank. She frequently tours the UK with her current Quartet, which also features acclaimed jazz pianist Leon Greening, bassist Julian Bury and drummer Steve Brown. The Observer described her as “playing with a tone so light and airy it positively melts at the edges”.
Born in Tokyo, Eriko Ishihara was surrounded by music and started playing pianoaAt the age of four. After graduating from Kunitachi College of Music where Eriko studied classical piano, she came to London, graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has since been working on the British jazz scene, playing with her own groups at venues such as the 606 Club, Vortex, Royal Festival Hall, Concorde Club, Boxford Fleece Jazz Club and weekly residencies at Pizza On The Park.
Completing the quartet this evening will be Stuart Barker on double bass and host Mark Hale on drums. There is no admission charge but a donation of £5 is suggested, which pays the musicians for their performance.
