The Ampthill Town Saturday first XI suffered a surprise 64-run home defeat to Old Albanians.
OA’s scored 233-9 and declared after 52 overs – skipper Chris Esh taking seven wickets.
In response, Ampthill were never in the hunt to win the game – Jake Duxbury (52) top scoring in the total of 169 a/o.
The Sunday first XI’s losing run continued with a three-wicket defeat away to Waresley. Batting first, Ampthill scored 175-8 in their 45 overs; Alex Evans top scoring with 41, and Raj Nahar adding 39.
Warelsey reached the target with just under 10 overs left – Ben Slawinski taking 4-25 in his nine overs.
The Saturday second XI had another high scoring draw, this time with Hertingfordbury. Gav Howson scored 100 and Nat Howson 79 in a total of 281-8 declared.
In reply, Hertingfordbury clung on for a draw as they scored 215-9. Degnan (4-46) and Robbie Thomas (3-62) were the chief wicket takers.
Cople I beat the Ampthill Sunday second XI by 80 runs at The Park. Cople hit 267-7, with Luke Hardwidge claiming 3-72. In reply, Nick Key (49) and Michael Wiles (30) started the innings well but couldn’t get close to the total. James Freeman’s 67 was the top score in 187 for 5.
The Saturday 3’s beat Pilgrims Oakley to record back to back victories. Pilgrims were bowled out for 144, with Sam Clipstone taking 3-21 and Jamie Casley 3-30. Victory was secured by five wickets as Colin Ruddick was 73 not out.
The Saturday 4’s claimed their first league victory of the season, beating Riseley at Marston. Batting first, Amps scored 182 thanks in the main to James Freeman’s 76 and John Keeling’s undefeated 70.
Victory was secured by 28 runs as the visitors were bowled out for 154 – Lee Houghton (3-21) and Ben Truppin (3-46) being the main wicket takers.
The Sunday 3’s were defeated by eight wickets at Biggleswade II. Ampthill scored 116, with John Keeling top scoring with 24.
Biggleswade cruised to victory, both wickets falling to Katie Roberts (2-30) who made who her adult debut alongside dad and Andy.
