Bedford Blues will have the privilege of hosting the first televised rugby game of 2016 when the Sky cameras come to Goldington Road on New Year’s Day for the Championship fixture against London Scottish.

The game has been moved back to 3.05pm to accommodate the cameras so that’ll give everyone an extra five minutes to recover from any ‘over indulgences’ the night before and make their way to Goldington Road.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues director of rugby Mike Rayer said: “The festive period is always an exciting time at Goldington Road as families come out to enjoy an afternoon of rugby and really get behind all the players.

Having Sky joining us for the afternoon will add an extra bit of glamour to the game and we are really looking forward to the fixture although there is still a lot of rugby to play before then.”

Sky Sports presenter Johnnie Hammond said: “I’m delighted that Sky Sports continues its coverage of the Greene King IPA Championship on New Year’s Day at Goldington Road.

“Bedford have been an integral part of this league for many a year and this season they have made a cracking start, currently sitting fourth in the table with six wins from the opening nine rounds.

“Taking history into account, you won’t bet against them being in the play-offs come the end of the season.

“There is always an effervescent atmosphere at this famous old ground and it will be no different in January. Added into the mix are London Scottish, last year’s semi-finalists, coming home in the middle of the festive period; it will be some occasion – hangovers allowing of course!”

In addition to the match, Bedford are offering a New Year’s Day special in the Blues Marquee where fans can enjoy a two-course sit down meal ahead of the big clash.

For just £15, fans can enjoy either chicken curry or beef chili followed by cheese and biscuits. There will also be pre-match player interviews along with live music and a very special New Year’s Day raffle.
