Bedford Blues return to Goldington Road this weekend looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Yorkshire Carnegie as they host Cornish Pirates in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Games between the two are often high scoring and close affairs with the reverse this season being a perfect example. Bedford had looked as though they were heading towards a bonus point win thanks to tries from Pat Tapley, Tom Griffiths, Joel Conlon and Mike Le Bourgeois, but a dogged Pirates team didn’t give in and snatched a 32-31 win with a converted try right at the death.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues team manager Rob Crowle said: “The Pirates are a very determined team and we saw that only too well down at their place back in November.

“That said, we learnt a lot from that defeat and one thing that the boys can be proud of is the way that they learn from their mistakes and move on.

“We had a disappointing result at Headingley last week, but we’ve got three huge games remaining this season and we’ll be giving everything we’ve got to get back to winning ways in front of our home fans.”

Bedford make two changes to the team that lost 35-20 at Yorkshire Carnegie with George Perkins replacing Pat Tapley on the wing and Paul Tupai starting at Number Eight in place of Joel Conlon who picked up a knock at Headingley. James Currie and Henry Staff take places on the bench in a four/three split.
