Saturday is a day of firsts. It’s the first home game of Ampthill’s National One adventure with visitors Blaydon not only travelling to Dillingham Park for the first time but also recording the first time the two clubs have ever played each other at first XV level.
It’s also the first home game to be supported by the club’s new commercial partners Jeep & Haines Watts.
Like Ampthill, the visitors can trace their rugby history back to the early 1880s, as they run four adult sides, a colts side and have a thriving mini and youth section.
Promoted to level three at the end of 2007 Blaydon have since been ever present finishing eighth last season with 13 wins from 30 games.
Last week they recorded a 29-16 victory over Blackheath at Crow Trees, their home ground.
Ampthill’s first game in National One saw the forwards providing the platform at Esher to secure a bonus point 27-16 victory with debuts for seve players signed during the close season.
