Bedford Blues are eagerly awaiting their return to Championship action against Cornish Pirates on Sunday, according to coach Mike Rayer.
The Blues go in to the game full of confidence after securing impressive victories over both Ulster A and Scarlets Select in the pool stages of the British & Irish Cup in recent weeks.
Bedford are set to make the long journey down to West Cornwall to play the Pirates who currently sit bottom of the Championship table; but they have also won their two opening games of the B&I Cup.
Rayer said: “We’re keen to keep the momentum going but it’s always a tough place to go with the pitch conditions playing a major factor.”
“Our defensive performances are massively important as last Saturday’s game proved and we will look to keep that going in our next few games.
“The Pirates have one of the best defensive records in the league and, after last season’s results, they will fancy their chances against us.”
Rayer’s men are currently fourth in the Greene King IPA Championship and they will be looking to extend their current unbeaten streak with a victory over the Pirates at the Mennaye Fields.
Rayer added: “We’re really happy with how things have gone so far this season but there is a long way to go yet.
“We’re all looking to carry on improving as a group and there are still some aspects of our game that we need to work on but we’re happy with how things are going for us at this moment in time.”
