Ampthill RFC have announced their second signing of the summer, with Bedford Blues’ Ben Gulliver joining the club.

The 33-year-old began his career at Coventry and has subsequently made 278 appearances in the Premiership and Championship.

After playing for Worcester Warriors in the Premiership in 2011/12 he joined Bedford for the following season and played over 50 times.

Standing at 1.96m, Gulliver offers an obvious lineout target at lock as well as a commanding presence in the ruck, maul and scrum.

He will strengthen Ampthill’s second row options for the step up to level 3 rugby next term.

A’s head coach Paul Turner said: “I am delighted Ben has joined Ampthill. He is a great addition to the Ampthill forward pack for our first season in National One.

“He brings a physical presence and a wealth of experience in the Premiership and Championship.

“Ben will strengthen the formidable unit which has been at the heart of our recent success.”

Gullver added: “I am very excited to join Ampthill and will give my all to maintain their progression.

“I hope to contribute on and off the field as the club continues to grow within the National Leagues.”
