Bedford Blues head coach Mike Rayer says his squad is ‘full of excitement’ ahead of their Boxing Day fixture against Bristol in the Greene King IPA Championship.
Bristol, who are coached by former England head coach Andy Robinson, have won all 14 of their matches this season in both the league and cup competitions.
With renowned professionals such as David Lemi and Dwayne Peel about to face them, Rayer believes his Blues squad are ready for the challenge. He said: “They are an absolutely quality side, there is no two ways about it.
“We can’t pinpoint any area of strengths or weakness throughout their squad; it’s their overall package that they’ll bring that will make it a huge challenge for us to even compete.
“They’ve won all their games this season, so there is no pressure on us.
“There is going to be a huge crowd here on Boxing Day and we, as a squad, very much like playing here at this time of year in front of our fans.”
Bedford are eighth in the table after eight matches, but their performance and attitude is the most important thing according to Rayer.
He added: “Bristol and Worcester are the matches that we looked for when the fixtures came out. They both are the big spenders in the league, and they’ll be right up there come the end of the season.
“We know it’s going to be tough but we really want to put in a strong performance and play our way. We’ve had a couple of good performances in the last two matches and we want to do that against Bristol.”
Kick-off at Goldington Road is at 3pm.
