A commanding performance earned Bedford Athletic a 36-14 win at Paviors in Midlands 1 East on Saturday.
Athletic were on the back foot early on and went 7-0 down, however the work of Sven Meiland in disrupting the home side’s lineout prevented further scores.
From a line out Luke Levitt powered through the defence, converted to bring the scores level. However an intercept pass allowed Paviors’ full back to score.
Mortimer slotted a penalty on 28 minutes. From the kick off Athletic turned the ball over and Tom Dolemore’s pass put David Simpson in the clear to score, making it 15-14 to Ath the interval.
Athletic went on to win the game at the start of the second half. A subtle delayed pass from Mortimer put Darlow through to score, then Dolemore broke clear and as he was high tackled just before the line a yellow card reduced Paviors to 14 men. The catch and drive from the line out produced a second try for Levitt and Mortimer’s conversion made it 29-14.
On the hour mark full back Ben Johnson crossed for a try again converted.
Bedford Athletic host Spalding on Saturday.
