Rugby: Biggy win friendly

Biggleswade’s rugby men enjoyed a friendly victory over Letchworth on Saturday.

While the Midlands 4 East (South) League leaders should have played a league and Bedfordshire County Cup ‘double header’ with Vauxhall, it was called off on Wednesday evening.

But the table-topping 1st XV managed to hastily arrange a game with Letchworth 2nds.

Following an excellent pre-match buffet – provided by former club chairman John Cushion who is moving from Biggleswade to the south coast to live on Hayling Island – Biggy ran in three first half tries, two of them converted, while the Langford Road visitors replied with an unconverted try and a penalty which was awarded by the referee despite the ball passing inches the wrong side of the post!

Turning round 19-8 up, Biggleswade came under enormous pressure in the new half but they held out against a powerful Hedgehogs pack and with no further score, this friendly fixture game petered out with Biggy

once again victorious.
