The lacrosse girls led the way, as they showed impressive staying power to play 10 matches over seven hours and win the National Schools Lacrosse Tournament in Surrey.

After going unbeaten in their seven-team group, the U13s swept aside St Paul’s School 4-2 in the first knockout round for a place in the quarter-finals where they saw off Berkhamsted School 3-2.

An equally narrow 2-1 win over St Catherine’s School, Bramley in the last four set up a clash with St Swithuns School in the final, with BGS running out 2-0 victors.

It was then the turn of the hockey girls on Friday, who faced Surbiton High School in the final of the U13 National Independent School Hockey Cup final in east London.

BGS earnt their place in the final after a tight 3-1 victory over Godolphin and Latymer School in the semi-finals, and a similarly tight final looked on the cards.

BGS took the lead through Maddie Axford but were soon behind 4-1 to their south-west London opponents.

But BGS stormed back into the match and after moving 6-5 ahead, they didn’t look back to win 9-5, which included five goals from Axford, a Florence Miller hat-trick and a crucial goal from Emily Dunning.
