Otters swept aside at Park

Flitwick were swept aside by 101 runs at Southill Park in the Greene King Beds County League Premier Division on Sunday.

Lee Hoggett’s unbeaten 66 carried Southill to 204 for six, with Shoaib Rashid (2-26) the tidiest bowler. The Otters were held up by a shower early in their innings, and struggled on the softened pitch, losing three quick wickets to George Darlow (3-21).

Flitwick II fared better in an exciting Division Three match at home to Bedford.

Rain stopped play in the seventh over, leaving Flitwick chasing an adjusted target of 136 in 29.

Phil Gurney (37) and James Coyne (45) dug in against their former club, and Flitwick got over the line with two balls and three wickets to spare.

Dominic Mawdsley had earlier clumped 62 as Bedford were pegged back to 179 all out, with Paul Thurstance claiming 4-24.

Flitwick’s Andrew Kennard suffered a nasty eye injury in the field, but thankfully suffered no lasting damage.

In Division Six, a youthful Flitwick III managed 175-5 in response to Stevenage II’s 238-1.

On Saturday Langleybury racked up 243-8 against Flitwick in the Saracens Herts League Championship.

George Thurstance (3-36) took three top-order wickets, while Ross Bailey mopped up for 4-44. The Otters were 27 for one in reply when rain washed out the game.

A miserly Flitwick II restricted Southgate Compton to 193 in Division 4A at the Hardy Vale, despite a century from opener Adil Raja.

Daniel Moss claimed 3-37 and Matt Pateman 3-22. But rain arrived during tea and prevented the home side from responding.

Met Police Bushey II were unable to raise a side, leaving Flitwick III top of Division 9A with the maximum 90 points from three fixtures.

A friendly was hastily arranged against Old Warden, but Flitwick were blown away for 110 and lost by six wickets. Richard Dutton began his opening spell with a phenomenal four wickets in four balls.
