Edwardian life in West Street, Dunstable

A HORSE and cart travel along what we would today consider to be the wrong side of the road in this early photo of West Street, Dunstable, looking in the direction of the crossroads.

It would have been taken in Edwardian times, alongside what is today the new extension to Dunstable cemetery.

Many of the houses on the left have been extended or otherwise altered, but it is still readily recognisable.

The trees on the right-hand side, then and now, are on the edge of the large property which was the home of the Gutteridge family. It has been substantially refurbished in recent months.

The colour photo of the same scene was taken last week, when substantial road works were taking place in West Street.
