Victory over Cople sends Ampthill top again

Ampthill Town returned to the top of the Greene King Beds CountyDivision One after defeating Cople by five wickets on Sunday.

Cople batted first and were bowled out for 179 in just over 36 overs, Ben Slawinski taking 4 for 30.

He followed this up with an unbeaten 37 as victory was secured with just under 15 overs remaining, Jake Duxbury top scoring with 46.

Ampthill II got their first league victory, defeating Dunstable III by six runs in a rain affected game.

Batting first, 215 was scored with Richard Haxell undefeated on 75, Paul Strong 50 and Alan Reynolds 47. The visitors were bowled out in the last over just short of victory, skipper Andy Passman returning with figures of 7 -29.

Langford II defeated Ampthill III at Marston by eight wickets. Pete McEvoy’s 24 was the top score in Ampthill’s 117 all out, Langford reached victory losing just two wickets in the 24th over.

Saturday afternoon’s rain through up some strange run chases throughout the leagues as Ampthill suffered a first defeat at West Herts in the Saracens Herts Division One.

After being inserted and struggling at 92-6, Jarryd Biviano and Chris Esh rebuilt the innings with Biviano making exactly 100 and Esh 36 not out as the innings finished early on 183-7 due to rain. Over two hours were lost and once the rules had been checked the hosts needed just 76 off 20 overs which they reached for the loss of twoweb h wickets.

The Saturday II, III and IV games were all abandoned due the rain after tea.
