The new hockey season is fast approaching and preparations are stepping up for the Bedford Ladies first team who were promoted to the Investec National League last season after a six-year absence.

The ladies started their pre-season program back in June and have been working with local fitness professionals to ensure they are in peak physical condition, in preparation for the tough challenge that lies ahead in playing at the top level of English hockey.

This week sees the first pre-season friendlies for the team and they follow thick and fast before the first league game at Chester Road on Saturday, September 13.

On Saturday there is a trip to face Old Loughts, who were relegated from the Investec East Conference last season.

The following week will involve an away trip to Oxford Hawks before the Plum tournament takes which includes fixtures against National League opposition including Maidstone, St Albans, Cheltenham and Harleston.

Bedford Captain Sherri Skene said: “It’s been really fantastic to have the support of Core Performance-Cross Fit and Body Weight Fitness to help us get into shape.

“We have found their backing and expertise invaluable in our goal to be the best physically prepared team in the league and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to anyone in the Bedford area.

“The next phase in our preparations is the pre-season matches and this will allow our new coaching duo of Luke Stone and Paul Livesey to get our formation and tactics set up ahead of our first league game against Horsham.”

All support is very welcome so please visit for details of all upcoming fixtures.
