BEDFORD Modern School Year 8 pupil Julie Rogers has been selected for the GB Sitting Volleyball Team for the 2012 Paralympics.
Earlier this year, the 13-year-old competed for Great Britain in the Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team Inter-Continental Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
Through participation in this competition, Julie was able to be considered for selection into the 2012 Paralympic Team.
She will be staying in the Athletes’ Village for the full duration of the Paralympic Games with her first match on August 31.
The pre-training phase includes her spending five days a week in Loughborough to train full-time for six weeks before moving into the Athletes’ Village.
Speaking about her selection, Rogers said: “It is an honour to be involved in the biggest sporting competition in the world and this will be an incredible experience at my age.
“One of the things I am most looking forward to is representing GB in sitting volleyball and meeting other athletes in different sports.
Patrick Jerram, director of sport at Bedford Modern School added: “This is a fantastic achievement and we are all delighted for Julie.
“She has worked very hard over the past few months to try and gain selection and it is thoroughly deserved.
“To compete, at home, in a Paralympics is very much a once in a lifetime experience and I can only wish her the very best of luck.”
